Unionville Church Minutes, 1860-1869

April 28th 1860
Session met at the call of he Moderator. Present H. F. Wadsworth (Moderator) Joseph Chandler, Isaac Swift, Gamaliel Russel, Peter C. Hanford, Elders. Opened with prayer. Mrs. Sarah Bucklee appeared before Session and desired to be admitted into the church. After due examination on the doctrines of Christianity and experimental piety they voted to receive her at the next communion. The Session also granted a letter of dismission and recommendation to Mr. James Coulter to join the 13th St. Presbyterian Church in the city of New York under the Rev D.r. Bunchard and also received Miss Angeline Lee by letter from the Presbyterian church at Westtown NY. Mr. Gamaliel Russel was appointed delegate to attend the meeting of Presbytery at Middletown. Closed with prayer.

September 2nd 1860
Session met after Preparatory Lecture according to previous notice. Present H. F. Wadsworth (Mod), Peter C. Hanford, Gamaliel Russel, Joseph Chandler, Isaac Swift, Elders. A letter of dismission and recommendation was presented by Mrs. E. B. Wadsworth from the Presbyterian church at Newfoundland NY which was accepted. Closed with prayer.

March 1860.
The following persons were elected Elders of this church Joseph Chandler, Gamaliel Russel and Isaac Swift and were formally set apart to this office according to the constitution of the church. H. F. Wadsworth Moderator of Session (Omitted on page 25)

October 1st 1861
Session met at the call of the moderator. Present H. F. Wadsworth Moderator, Peter C. Hanford, Joseph Chandler, Gamaliel Russel, Isaac Swift, Elders. Opened with prayer. At this meeting letters of dismission and recommendation were granted to the following persons viz. Mr. Levi Truex and his wife Mrs. Mary Jane Truex to join the First Presbyterian Church at Newtown NJ also to Mr. Lewis Smith and Mrs. Mary Ann Smith his wife to unite with the Presbyterian church at Waverly, NY. Also to Mr. Elijah Middaugh and ???? Middaugh his wife to unite with the First Presbyterian church in ??? NY. Closed with prayer.

Dec 1st 1861
Session met at the call of the Moderator. Present H. F. Wadsworth (Mod), Peter C. Hanford, Isaac Swift, Joseph Chandler & Gamaliel Russell. Opened with prayer. Session received Mr. ??? Millspaugh by letter from the Methodist Episcopal church at Wantage NJ and his wife Mrs. Elizabeth B. Millsapugh from he Methodist church at ??? NY. Closed with prayer.

August 23rd 1861
Session met at the call of the Moderator. Present H. F. Wadsworth (Moderator), Joseph Chandler, Peter C. Hanford, Gamaliel Russell, Isaac Swift, Marcus Hayne, Elders. Opened with prayer. Session granted letters of dismission and recommendation to Mrs Elisabeth Dunning to unite with one of the Presbyterian church at Elmire NY also to Mrs ??? ??? to unite with the First Presbyterian church at Westown NY also to Mr. James Halsey and his wife Mrs Jane Halsey to unite with the Presbyterian church at ??? NY also to Mrs Elizabeth P Briggs to unite with the Presbyterian church at Lan??? NY. Closed with prayer.

August 31st 1861
Session met at the call of the Moderator. Present H. F. Wadsworth (Moderator), Joseph Chandler, Isaac Swift, Gamaliel Russell, Elders. Absent Peter C. Hanford, Marcus Hayne. Opened with prayer. Application was made by John Elmer for admission to the church after the Session being satisfied with his examination on experimental piety and Christian doctrine received him. Closed with prayer.

Nov 30th 1861
Session met at the call of the Moderator. Present H. F. Wadsworth (Moderator), Joseph Chandler, Isaac Swift, Peter C. Hanford, Gamaliel Russell, Elders. Absent Marcus L. Hayne. Opened with prayer. The session received Miss Sarah Smith by letter from the first Presbyterian church, Wantage N J. Also Mrs. Sarah Hanny and Miss Justina Hanny by letter from the Presbyterian Church at Amity NY. Likewise Mrs Sarah Chandler by letter from the 1st Prot. Reformed Dutch Church at Jersey City. At the same meeting Mrs. M. E. Smith and Miss L. E. Wadsworth appeared before session, and desired to be admitted into the church. After due examination on the doctrines of Christianity + experimental piety they voted to receive them. Feb 28th 1862

The session granted a letter of dismission + recommendation to Mr. Uriah M. Terry to join the Presbyterian church at Amity, NY + to Mrs. Arminda Myers to join the 1st Prot. Sep. 5th 1862.
Session met at the call of the Moderator. Opened with prayer. Present H. F. Wadsworth Moderator, Joseph Chandler, Isaac Swift, P. C. Hanford, M. S. Hayne, Elders. Absent Gamaliel Russell. Session granted a letter of dismission + recommendation to Mrs. C. D. Casterline to join the 1st Presbyterian church at Dover N.J. also to Mrs. S. Mealing to join the 1st Presbyterian church at Newton, N. J. Closed in prayer. H. F. Wadsworth. Mod.

Dec 6th 1862

The Session received Mrs. Mary Todd by letter of recommendation from the Second Presbyterian church of Wantage, NJ. Also granted a letter of dismission to Oscar H. Feb 28th 1863
The Session me at the call of the Moderator. Present H. F. Wadsworth Mod, Peter C. Hanford, Gamaliel Russel, Isaac Swift, Joseph Chandler. Opened with prayer. Letters of dismission were granted to Mr. Jesse Owen and his wife Mrs. Emily B Owen to join the First Presbyterian church at Waverly NY. Closed with prayer. H. F. Wadsworth. Mod.

June 6th 1863
The Session met at the call of the Moderator. Present H. F. Wadsworth, Mod’r, Isaac Swift, Joseph Chandler, Gamaliel Russel, Peter C. Hanford. Opened with prayer. The session received Mrs. Catharine S. Potter by letter of recommendation from the Presbyterian church at Monticello and Mrs. Margaret Leighton presented herself for examination of connecting herself with the church. Session being satisfied with her religious experience agreed to received her. Closed with prayer. H. F. Wadsworth, Mod.

July 1st 1863
The session met at the call of the Moderator. Present H. F. Wadsworth Mod, Isaac Swift, Peter C. Hanford, Joseph Chandler. Opened with prayer. The session received Mrs. Julia Mapes by letter from the Methodist Episcopal church at Greenville N. Y. at the same time Miss Sara E Middaugh was examined in relation to her religious experience which being satisfactory, she was received by them. They also granted a letter of dismission to Mrs. Sara B. Chandler to unite with the First Presbyterian church at Middletown NY. Closed with prayer. H. F. Wadsworth Mod’r.

Dec 5th 1863
The session met at the call of the Moderator after the preparatory lecture. Opened with prayer. Present H. F. Wadsworth Mod, Peter C. Hanford, Isaac Swift, Gamaliel Russell. The Session granted a letter of dismission and recommendation to Mr. Thomas Carey to any evangelical church were God in his Providence may cast his lot. Closed with prayer. H. F. Wadsworth Modr.

March 5th 1864
The Session meat the call of the Moderator. Present H. F Wadsworth Modr, Joseph Chandler, Peter C. Hanford, Isaac Swift. Opened with prayer. The session granted a letter of dismission to Mr. Abram Purday to unite with the First Congregational church at Middletown. Close with prayer. H. F. Wadsworth Modr.

June 29th 1864.
The Session met at the call of the Moderator. Present H. F. Wadsworth Modr, Isaac Swift, Joseph Chandler, Gamaliel Russel, Peter C. Hanford. Opened with prayer. The session granted letters of dismission to Mr. Alfred Decker and to Mrs. Ella Decker, his wife, and to Mrs. Arminda Decker, to unite with the Second Reformed Dutch Church at Paterson NJ, also granted a letter of dismission to Mrs. Margaret Leighton to join some evangelical church in Warren Co NJ. Sept 9th 1864
The session met at the call fo the Moderator. Present H. F. Wadsworth, Peter C. Hanford, Isaac Swift, Marcus Haynes, Joseph Chandler. Opened with prayer. The session received by letters of dismission and recommendation from the Presbyterian church at West Town N. Y. the following named persons – Mr. Charles S. Lee and Mrs. Milicend Lee his wife, Mr Alexander Lee, Mrs Julia Clark, Miss Frances Clark, Mr. John D. Lee. Mr William H Hart and Mrs Abigail Hart, his wife. Closed with prayer. H. F. Sept 1864
The Session met at the call of the Moderator; opened with prayer. Present H. F. Wadsworth, Moderator. Joseph Chandler, Isaac Swift, Gamaliel Russell, Peter C. Hanford. Absent Marcus Hayne. Mrs. Sarah Lee was received into the church by letter of recommendation from the Presbyterian church at West-town NY. Closed with prayer. H. F. Wadsworth, Mod.

Jan 3rd 1865
The Session met at the call of the Moderator. Opened with prayer. Present H. F. Wadsworth, Modr. Joseph Chandler, Isaac Swift, Gamaliel Russell, Peter C. Hanford. Absent Marcus Hayne. Mary C. Doty. Esther M. Tuthill. Amanda M. Donling, Thomas J Casterline, William H. Swift, Joseph D. Swift, Emmet Hanford, Jesse Hanford and Joseph D. Nanny requested to be admitted into the church. After careful examination on Christian doctrine and experimental religion, the session voted to receive them at the next communion. Adjourned to meet one week from that evening. Closed with prayer. Jan 10th 1865
The Session according to adjournment. Opened with prayer. Present H. F. Wadsworth Modr, Joseph Chandler, Isaac Swift, Peter C. Hanford. Absent Gamaliel Russell, Marcus Hayne. Walter S. Jervis presented himself for examination for church membership. The Session being satisfied with his examination on Christian doctrine and experimental piety voted to received him. Feb 22nd 1865
The session met at the call of the Moderator. Opened with prayer. Present H. F. Wadsworth Modr, Joseph Chandler, Isaac Swift, Peter C. Hanford. Absent Gamaliel Russell, Marcus Hayne. Ezra Smith presented himself before the session and requested admission into the church. The Session after due examination were satisfied with the history of his religious experience and granted his request. Also gave letters of dismission and recommendation to Mr. Henry D. Elmer and his wife Mrs Julia Ann Elmer also William W Elmer and John Elmer to united with the First Presbyterian church at Chester NY. Closed with prayer. H. F. Wadsworth, Moderator.

June 3rd 1865.
Session met at the call of the Moderator. Opened with prayer. Present H. F. Wadsworth Modr. Joseph Chandler, Gamaliel Russell, Isaac Swift, Peter C. Hanford. Absent Marcus Hayne. Mrs. Mary Jervis presented a letter of dismission and recommendation from the Methodist Episcopal church at Port Jervis NY and after giving a hearty assent to our confession of faith the session agreed to receive her into the church. A letter of dismission and recommendation was also granted to Mrs. Emily L. Hulse to united with the First Presbyterian church at Middletown. Closed with prayer. H. F. Wadsworth. Moderator.

August 30th 1865
The session met at the call of the Moderator, after prayer meeting and granted letters of dismision and recommendation to Mr. Jonathan Decker and his wife Mrs Sarah A. Decker. Also to Sarah F. Doty and Mary E. Doty to join the Fist Presbyterian church at Ridgebury NY. H. F. Wadsworth Moderator.

March 3rd 1866
The session met at the call of the Moderator. Opened with prayer. Present H. F. Wadsworth, Moderator, Gamaliel Russel, Isaac Swift, Peter C. Hanford. Absent Joseph Chandler, Marcus L. Hayne. The session granted a letter of dismission and recommendation to Mrs Catharine Potter to unite with the Presbyterian church at Monticello N.Y. and after conferring together as to the best means of promoting the Redeemers kingdom in our midst. June 2nd 1866
After the Preparatory lecture the Session convened at the call of the Modeator a majority of the members being present, they granted a letter of dismission and recommendation to Mrs. Amanda Fitsgerald to join the Presbyterian church at Franklin Penny. H. F. Wadsworth. Moderator.

July 13th 1866
After Divine service the session met at the call of the Moderator a majority being present they granted a letter of dismission and recommendnation to Mr John Lee to join the Presbyterian church at Sparta Wisconsin. H. F. Wadsworth, Moderator.

September 1st 1866.
The session met at the call of the Moderator. Opened with prayer. Present, H. F. Wadsworth, Moderator, Gamaliel Russel, Isaac Swift, Peter C. Hanford. Absent Joseph Chandler, Marcus L Hayne. The Session met and received Mr. George Hankinson by letter of recommendation from the Presbyterian Church at Newton, NJ. At the same time Mrs. Samathan Hankinson was examined in relation to her religious experience, which being satisfactory she was received by them. Closed with prayer. H. F. Wadsworth, Moderator.

Session met at the call of the Moderator and granted letters of dismission and recommendation to Mr Charles P Lee and Mrs Millicent Lee to join the First Presbyterian church at Ridgebury N.Y. H.F. Wadsworth, Moderator

The Session met at the call of the Moderator and received Johnathan L. Whittaker, MD and Mrs Julia A Whittaker by letter of dismission and recommendation from the First Presbyterian church at Mount Hope, NY. H. F. Wadsworth, Moderator.

August 31st 1867
The Session met at the call of the Moderator and received Mrs Mary J Tuthill by letter of recommendation from the First Presbyterian church at Mt Hope NY. And also granted a letter of dismission and recommendation to Mr. Alexander Lee to join the First Presbyterian church at West Town NY. H. F. Wadsworth, Moderator.

Dec 4th 1867
The Session convened at the call of the Moderator. Opened with prayer. Present H. F. Wadsworth, Moderator, Isaac Swift, Peter C. Hanford, Absent Marcus Hayne. Miss Emme A. Maples request to be admitted into the church. The Session being satisfied with the history of her religious experience and of her knowledge of Scriptural doctrine agreed to receive her. March 12th 1868
The Session convened at the call of the Moderator. Opened with prayer. Present. H. F. Wadsworth, Moderator. Isaac Swift, Peter C. Hanford. Absent Marcus L Hayne. Mr Rober Donaldson and Mrs Electe Schoonover requested to be received into the church and the Session after hearing a statement of their religious experience agreed to receive them. At the same time Miss Esther Carpenter was received by letter of dismission and recommendation from the First Presbyterian church at Ridgebury NY. Closed with prayer. H. F. Wadsworth, Moderator.

March 18th 1868
Session met at the call of the Moderator. Opened with prayer. Present H. F. Wadsworth, Moderator, Isaac Swift, Peter C. Hanford. Absent Marcus L Hayne. The following named persons requested admission into the church. Warren H. Nanny, Eliakim Elston, James L. Van Fleet and Mrs Huldah A. Hanford. The Session being satisfied with their religious experience agreed to receive them. Closed with prayer. H. F. Wadsworth, Moderator.

April 4th 1868
The Session met at the call of the Moderator. Opened with prayer and gratned letters of dismission and recommendation to Mr. William Hart and Mrs Abigail Hart to join the Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian church at Broklyn N.Y. also to Mrs. Julia Clark, Miss Frances Clark and Mrs Mary Doty to join the First Presbyterian church at West Town NY also to Mrs Franes J. Kastly to join the Congregational church at Hitchburg Mass and to Mr. Joseph Chandler to join the Presbyterian church at Port Jervis N.Y. Closed with prayer. H. F. Wadsworth, Moderator.

Nov 25th 1868
Session met at the call of the Moderator. Opened with prayer. Present H. F. Wadsworth, Moderator. Isaac Swift, Peter C. Hanford. Jane Givens, Mary F. Wadsworth, Anna C Smith, Mary W Smith, Alice Fraser, Nathan C. Hanford, Oliver R Guerney, Wilmore Anmay, presented themselves before the Session and requested admission into the church. After due examination being satisfied with the history of their religious experience the Session unanimously voted to receive them. Closed with prayer. H. F. Wadsworth, Moderator.

Dec 3rd 1868
The Session met at the call of the Moderator. Opened with prayer. Present H. F. Wadsworth, Isaac Swift, Peter C. Hanford. Mr James Irwin requested admission into the church. The Session after hearing his religious experience agreed to receive him. Closed with prayer. H. F. Wadsworth, Moderator.

Sept 4th 1869
The Session met at the call of the Moderator after Preparatory lecture. Present H. F. Wadsworth Mod, Isaac Swift, Peter C. Hanford. The Session by request granted letters of dismission and recommendation to Mr. Andrew Van Fleet and his wife Mrs Frances Fan Fleet and also to Mr James Van Fleet to join the Presbyterian church at West Town, New York.
