Session records of the Presbyterian Church of Unionville

1850. May 4. Session met by mutual agreement, having invited Revd Augustus Seward to be present + moderate this meeting.

Present. Augustus Seward, Moderator, Benjamin Vanfleet + Peter C. Hanford, Elders. Absent Joseph Chandler + Alfred Bullock, Elders. The meeting was opened with prayer. Miss Eliza Ann + Miss Catharine Christie presented themselves before the Session as candidates for church membership. After an examination with reference to their Christian experience + views of Scripture doctrine the session voted to receive them. The meeting adjourned to meet previously to public service on the following day. Closed with prayer. Augustus Seward, Modr.

1850. May 5. Session failed to meet in consequence of a severe storm.

1850 June 30. Session met by mutual agreement. Present August Seward Modr (???? invitation), Joseph Chandler, Benjm Vanfleet, Peter C. Hanford, Elders. Absent Alfred Bullock, Elder. Mr. Joseph Chandler requested a letter of dismission + recommendation to the 1st church of Wantage, N.J.: his request was granted. At his request a letter of dismission was granted also to David Robertsen who as recommended to the Presbyterian Church of Centreville, NY. Meeting adjourned: closed with prayer. Augustus Seward, Moderator.

Unionville Oct 1st 1850.

This day Rev Nathaniel E. Pierson was duly installed Pastor of the Presbyterian Church in this place by commissioners appointed by the Presbytery of Hudson, consisting of the following persons viz Rev. D.J Wood of Middletown, Rev. J. W. Wood of Chister. Rev. O. M. Johnston of Denton, Rev. A Seward of Ridgebury. Rev. D. J. Wood presided, proposed the constitutional questioning etc. Rev. J. W. preach the sermon from [blank]. Rev. O. M. Johnson delivered the charge to the pastor, + Rev. A. Seward the charge to the people.

April 4. 1851. Session met according to public notice given on the Sabbath. Present. N. E. Pierson Pastor, P. C. Hanford, B. Vanfleet, Elders. Absent A. Bullock. Began with prayer. The following persons presented themselves before session with a view of uniting with the church, viz Jacob Davenport, Emily Vanfleet, Elizabeth P. Halsey. After due examination on experimental piety + the doctrines of the gospel, voted to receive them. Miss Mary Ann Shepherd presented a letter of dismission + recommendation from the 2d Presbyterian Church of Wantage N. J. voted to receive her. Adjourned to meet on Saturday of next week after preparatory lecture. Concluded with prayer. N. E. Pierson, Pastor.

April 12, 1851.

Session met according to adjournment after preparatory lecture. Present. N. E. Pierson Pastor, B. Vanfleet, P. C. Handford, Elders. Absent A. Bullock. Began with prayer. Mrs Adaline Doty presented a letter of dismission + recommendation from the presbyterian church of Amity. Her letter was received. Adjourned, concluded with prayer. N. E. Pierson, Pastor.

The persons whos names appear on pages 104 + 105 as having presented themselves before session requesting admision into the church, were duly received on the Sabbath, April 13 1857.
