PCT Mile 517 – Hikertown

Well yesterday was one of the harder hikes I’ve done. It was only 19 miles, but the last 10 were in extreme desert sun and heat. I put sunscreen on four times and drank most of the water I was carrying. What was left of the water was at least 90F and complete with floaties from the water source, a “guzzler” some 12 miles back.
So, going back chronologically to where I left off in the last post, Spoon and I left Hikers Heaven and hiked 15 miles. I found a campsite above the rest and had one of the best nights sleep ever. And by myself I was able to listen to music in my phone.
The next day we hiked out to Casa de Luna and planned on staying there, having just a short hike for the day. It wasn’t to our liking however and so we moved on. Paul, the brother of “Camper Dan” gave us a couple rides in his RV. There was another closure due to a previous years fire and so we had to walk or hitch around. We walked the first few miles, got a ride from the local schools Cheerleading coach in her Jeep, stopped at the Post Office, walked to Papas Market, and then talked to a customer there who ended up bringing us back up to the trail. Another couple miles on the trail and we got to Sawmill campground where we stayed for the night prior to yesterday’s hot hike.
So we’re at Hikertown now and planning to night hike starting this evening across the Mohave via the aquaduct. We’ve got resupply here and should be rested for the last two days of my section hike.
