We climbed Bromley Mt. today which had a fairly gradual approach until the last bit where we walked up a steep ski slope. Once on top we saw the ski gondolas used on the other side of the mountain. The black flies were out in force so we quickly moved on.
We met up with Spoon yesterday and hiked with him again today. He is a retired mail carrier from Minnesota. He’s the only other northbound thru hiker we’ve seen in a couple days. I had hiked with him some in Pennsylvania and it was good to catch up.
You get to talk to people for hours while hiking with them. Thus a day of hiking is like knowing someone for years.
As we crossed over Mad Tom Notch, Don’s Brother penned a song about Pilgrim to the tune of Jimmy Dean’s “Big Bad John” and called it “Mad Tom.” The catchy tune remained in our heads the remainder of the day.
And. . . cut to training montage. We’ve got a support driver! This should speed everything up. My brother Mike is on his way to Vermont to be our support. For two weeks or so he’ll drive us to the trail in the morning and back in the evening. This will cut out the expensive shuttle rides to town. Plus we’ll be able to go to stores and restaurants beyond walking distance.
